KKatie's Cottage Zinc Roofatie’s Cottage took a leap forwards recently as the zinc roof was installed.  A dark grey zinc fitted with a standing seam was chosen to compliment the slate on the main roof but clearly show that the extension was a modern addition.

Roots Director Micheal explained that ‘There are lots of different types of traditional roofing material on Tiree, from thatch to tarred felt to corrugated metal.  We thought it was important to use something different to tell the story that the sunroom is a contemporary extension and a contemporary type of living space.  However, we were keen to make sure that the material we chose complimented these traditional materials.  We feel that the dark colour, crisp lines and elegant hand-formed details make zinc the right choice and a special addition to the Tiree palette.’

Work on-site continues and we look forwards to seeing the timber cladding, corner windows and sliding shutters being installed.
