Katie’s Cottage has finished on-site

Katie's Cottage from the ShoreThe first project which Roots designed to go on-site has now been completed.

Roots’ Director Chris commented, ‘The project is a sunroom extension to Katie’s Cottage in Kenovay on the Isle of Tiree.  Our brief was to create an alternative living space to those in the original house; one with more natural light, greater views out and with a contemporary architectural language that respected the existing building.  We chose to acknowledge the existing lean-to porch, which the Client had proudly built himself, by referencing its form and use of materials.  By doing this the new extension continues the evolutionary tradition of adding to the building to suit modern circumstances, but has been done in a way which produces a coherent small building cluster.’

Chris’ colleague, Micheal, commented, ‘We’re delighted with how the build process for this project has gone.  Although the project is small it involved the integration of several specialist sub-contractors and two cantilevering corner windows.  John MacKinnon Builders have done a great job of pulling this all together and for delivering a finished build which is satisfyingly crisp and actually very similar to the early concept sketches we produced.  We’d like to thank them, our Client and everyone else involved in the project for helping to make it a success.’
