Katie's Cottage SunroomKatie’s Cottage, Roots’ first completed project on-site, was recently published in the prestigious quarterly journal, CIC Start Online.

The journal aims to embed sustainable building design into practice by supporting academic and industry collaboration.  Roots were invited to submit an article describing how this project demonstrates the ambition to be a mobile office which delivers sustainable design and professional services to rural communities.

Chris, who co-authored the article, commented that “CIC Start Online always manages to show the many different examples of innovation in the field of sustainable Scottish building design.  It was an honour to be invited to submit an article and to know that our peers consider our work to be of merit and worthy of publication.”

Micheal, who also co-authored the article, added that “Writing this article forced us to reflect on how the project had evolved; from when we first met Ian and Elspeth at a design workshop, through the many design stages and the construction process.  We hope that this kind of reflection will help us learn more about the way buildings evolve, particularly in rural Scotland, where there is a tradition of agricultural clusters changing over time in response to the needs of the current generation.”

The article can be viewed here on P82 onwards (external link).
