Archaeological survey completed at the Glebe Field

, Subject : Technical

An archaeological survey of the Glebe Field site on the Isle of Iona has just been completed; a key stage on an important project.

The survey was undertaken as the site lies in the middle of one of the most important historical areas in the country, with Iona Abbey at its centre. The survey was carried out from late August to early September, with volunteers from the local community helping out.  A number of artefacts were found, including a bronze pin which is provisionally dated as being from the 9th/10th century.

The team behind the The Glebe Field project continue to raise funds through a ‘buy-a-brick’ campaign. If you would like to contribute a donation please visit:, for further details.
