Old Fire Station, Isle of IonaRoots Design Workshop is overwhelmed with its latest appointment; to conceive designs for a public shelter for visitors to the Isle of Iona.

The appointment comes from the National Trust for Scotland and will involve close consultation with the local community.

The shelter is to be on the site of the old fire station in the township of Baile Mor.  It lies adjacent to the pier where the ferry docks, so it is proposed that the shelter will be primarily used by people using the ferry.

Chris, a Director at Roots Design Workshop said ‘Every now and again a project comes along that reminds us why we do what we do; this is one. Iona is such a special place and we are very much looking forward to working there once again.’

Micheal, Roots Design Workshop’s other Director continued ‘We are looking forward to trying to deliver a building which offers a suitable welcome to Iona. People arriving for the first time need to be drawn towards it; but it can’t stand out as being more important that any other part of the village.’

Roots Design Workshop has begun working on proposals with their Clients; please keep an eye on our website for future updates.
