Croft Cottage

This project looked to create a new-build 2 bedroom cottage for a small croft on the Isle of Tiree. The Client’s brief was for a traditional exterior but a contemporary interior; to suit the local landscape and their lifestyles respectively.

We took inspiration from the form, scale and materials of the local rural building. The result is a sustainable building that sits comfortably in its surroundings. However, the open plan ground floor, flexible spaces and recessed deck suit modern day living patterns.

A rainwater re-cycling system, air source heat pump and solar collectors all help to make the building more efficient. We also designed the structure to be pre-fabricated. This will allow it to be efficiently manufactured and constructed, reducing costs and time spent on site.
